There are a few Volunteer Exam Coordiantors (VEC's) so take a look for what is in your area. Each VEC has their own requirements for taking the exam, some are free, others cost around $15. The FCC currently charges $35 once you pass for a 10 year license. You may need to create an account at the FCC website prior to taking the exam (https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/userLogin.do) , make sure you find out what is needed before you show up for a test.
